Calculate Final marks, Division and
Grades in IGNOU
For calculation of final marks in a course,
assignment carry 30% weightage while 70% weightage is given to the marks
obtained in the Term End Examination (TEE).
1- For courses in which maximum marks in Term
End Examination (TEE) and assignments = 100, you can use the following method.
However, it should be used only when marks indicated in the IGNOU grade card
are out of 100.
Let us take different examples to
understand the exact procedure:-
When Maximum Marks = 100

Calculation of Assignment Marks

Calculation of TEE Marks

Final marks in the course out of 100
Marks obtained in Assignment out of 100
Assignment Marks according to 30% weightage i.e. (Column-a) * 0.3
Marks obtained in TEE out
of 100
TEE Marks according to 70% weightage i.e. (Column-c) * 0.7
Final marks = (Assignment Marks in Column-b +
TEE Marks in Column-d)

Example 1
75
75*0.3=22.5 ~ 23
92
92*0.7=64.4 ~ 64
23+64 = 87
Example 2
82
82*0.3=24.6 ~ 25
70
70*0.7 = 49
25 + 49 = 74
In Example 1: A student has obtained 75
marks out 100 in assignment and 92 marks out of 100 in the TEE. His final score
printed in the IGNOU’s Statement of Marks will be 87 out of 100.
Similarly, In Example 2: A student has
obtained 82 marks out 100 in assignment and 70 marks out of 100 in the TEE. His
final score printed in the IGNOU’s Statement of Marks will be 74 out of 100.
2- For courses in which maximum marks in Term
End Examination (TEE) and assignments = 50, you can use the following method.
However, it should be used only when marks indicated in the IGNOU grade card
are out of 50.
When Maximum Marks
= 50
Calculation of Assignment Marks

Calculation of TEE Marks
Final marks in the course out of 50
Marks obtained in Assignment out of 50
Double the marks obtained in Assignment i.e.
(Column- a)*2
Assignment Marks according to 30%
weightage i.e. (Column-b) * 0.3
Marks obtained in
TEE out of 50
Double the marks obtained in TEE i.e. (Column
-d)*2
TEE Marks according to 70% weightage
i.e. (Column-e) * 0.7
Final marks = (Assignment Marks in
Column-c + TEE Marks in Column-f)/2

Example 3
45
45*2= 90
90*0.3=27
34
34*2=68
68*0.7=47.6 ~ 48
(27+48)/2 =37.5 ~ 38
Example 4
39
39*2=78
78*0.3=23.4 ~ 23
43
43*2=86
86*0.7=60.2 ~ 60
(23+60)/2 = 41.5 ~ 42
In Example 3: A student has obtained 45
marks out 50 in assignment and 34 marks out of 50 in the TEE. His final score
printed in the IGNOU’s Statement of Marks will be 38 out of 50.
Similarly, In Example 4: A student has
obtained 39 marks out 50 in assignment and 43 marks out of 50 in the TEE. His
final score printed in the IGNOU’s Statement of Marks will be 42 out of 50.
You should also note that:-
Whenever the marks have a decimal number
greater than or equal to 0.5 (>=0.5), it is rounded off to the next integer.
And, whenever the marks have a decimal
number less than 0.5 (<0.5), it is not rounded off to the next integer.

You are
required to score atleast 40% in assignments and 40% in TEE to pass a course
and a minimum of 40% total marks in each course to claim a degree.
You should try to maximize your marks in
assignments as they carry 30% weightage and can be easily obtained as most of
the solutions can be obtained from the IGNOU text books. You can also refer to
my previous post for scoring high marks in the IGNOU assignments.
Cheers !
