Important instructions for IGNOU Assignments

All about IGNOU Assignments!

" After reading the entire post, start writing your IGNOU assignments as soon as possible and don't wait for last months or days"

Importance of Assignments: You are required to score at least 40% marks in each assignment as well as Term End Examination (TEE) separately. If you don’t submit the assignment of a course within the above specified time limit, you won’t be allowed to give the TEE for that course. If you appear in the TEE without submitting the assignments, the result of TEE would be liable to be cancelled.

Weightage of Assignments: Assignments of a course carry 30% weightage while 70% weightage is given to the Term End Examination. You can refer to "How to Calculate Final Marks in IGNOU" for more details.
  • From where can I obtain the latest assignment question paper?
Follow the official IGNOU website or directly click on https://webservices.ignou.ac.in/assignments/
You can also visit IGNOU Regional Centre or the allotted Student Centre for the same.
  •       Which type of paper should I use for the assignments?
You should use a Foolscap size paper or A4 Size paper for the assignments. For more marks, you should use both-sides blank paper & no ruled sheets. ;) Avoid using very thin paper.
  •       Should I write the assignments on the single side of a paper or on both sides or should I use a notebook instead?
No such restriction. But I will strongly suggest writing on a single side for more marks. Avoid notebooks.
  •          What kind of pen should be used?
You can use any kind of pen. But, I have personally got more marks by using Roller Gel Pen and Pilot-V5 Pen. :D
  •           How many colours of the pen should I use?
You can use the standard Blue + Black Combination. Write the headings in black and the main answer body in Blue.  Don’t use too many colours.
  •            Should I make a margin or start writing like a maniac?
You should use a 4cm margin on the left and at least 4 lines in between each answer.
  •            Should I staple or spiral bind the assignment pages?
Again, no such restriction. But spiral binding may be preferred.
  •           Can I print or type the assignments as it is easy to Copy-Paste the answers from the internet?
You should write the responses in your own handwriting only.
    • How to start your IGNOU Assignments-
 1. Page 1: On the first page write your Enrolment Number, Name, Study Centre Code, Programme, Course Code, the Course Title, Session, Address, Mobile/Telephone, Email, Date of Submission & Signature. You can download and print this as well-

2. Page 2: Second Page should be the Assignment Question Paper. Tick the questions which you will be attempting in the assignment.

3. Page 3: Start with the answers. Don’t write the questions as you have already attached the Assignment Question Paper on the previous page.

4.  Try to write at least 5-6 pages/question for a 500-word limit answer, especially if it is an arts subject.

5. You should write each assignment separately. All the assignments should not be written in continuity in a single notebook or shouldn’t be bind or stapled together.

6. You should write the question number with each answer.

7. You should not copy from the response sheets of your friends. If copying is noticed, assignments of you and your friend can be rejected, and disciplinary action can be taken against both of you as per the rules of the University. Although, nothing of such sort happens practically.

8. The completed assignment should be sent only by registered/speed post or submitted in person to the Coordinator of the Study Centre allotted to the student. The latter is the most preferred way. The assignment should not be sent to the Regional Centre.

9. After submitting the assignment at the Study Centre in person, the students should get the acknowledgment receipt from the Coordinator. You will have to keep this receipt safe for getting back your evaluated assignments. Also, this receipt will help you prove that you actually submitted those assignments.

10. Don't wait until the deadline. Submit your assignments well before 3-4 days or be ready to face chaos on the last day.  ( For G.O.T fans- Here, Chaos isn't a ladder )
  •            Should I keep a photocopy of the Assignment?
Yes, you must keep a photocopy before submitting your assignments to the Study Centre.
  •            Will IGNOU extend the Assignment submission deadline like it extends admission dates?
MAYBE. IGNOU sometimes extend the assignment submission date. But you shouldn't wait for the last dates and submit the assignments well in advance.
  •            Can I apply for the Re-evaluation of IGNOU assignments?
Assignments are not subject to re-evaluation except for factual errors if any committed by the evaluator. In case you find that the score indicated in the evaluated assignment sheet has not been correctly reflected or is not entered in your grade card, you are advised to contact the Coordinator of the study centre with a request to forward the correct award list to the Student Evaluation Division (SED) at IGNOU, New Delhi.

Hope that helps!

Even if we have attached the question paper, can we still write the question before starting an answer?
Will it affect negatively if we write the question also?
Easy Life Hacks said…
If you have already written the questions, then you need not change now but there is no need to write questions when assignment question paper is attached.
That was super helpful, spread the work with more people and with ease . .

Hi Ravi,

I took admission for Jan 2018 and assignment booklet shows the TS1 paper is due for assignment on 15th April. I have not received my study material for TS1yet. I am not sue how do write the assignments without study material.

Also as the deadline for assignment is already over what alternative do I have?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks

Easy Life Hacks said…
Hi Jayalaxmi,

You have to submit the assignment in the next cycle. IGNOU is sometimes late in delivering the study material specially in semester courses or 6 month Certification courses.
Jayalaxmi Bhat said…
Thanks Ravi. Does that mean I can take the examination in Dec 2018 and submit the assignments by Sep 30th 2018 even though I took admission in Jan 2018? Or should I take re-admission again? and what if i do not receive the study material even by sep 2018?

Last Date for submission: -

30th September, 2018 for December-2018 Term End Exam.
31st March, 2019 for June 2019 Term End Exam.

One more question, I stay in Mangalore and the regional center is Bangalore, should I print the IGNOU student ID and get it signed from Bangalore center?

Thanks
Jaya

There won't be any problem as you can write both of them next year. Congratulations and all the best from my side.

Yes you can copy from the books but not as it is. It is advisable to change a few words and try to cover the answer from the whole IGNOU chapter related to it.

Hey Easy Life Hack, Thanks for info.

I am a MA Psy Student and I have written best to my knowledge. That means its not technically from IGNOU as Ignou study material doesnt have much content plus wrong and old theories too. I have cited and quoted authors and ref, but it exceeded my word limit.

I need to know, Such assignments are marked according to knowledge or purely the Ignou Study Material content is require?

Am preparing for Mphil Clinical Psy Entrance, I need 55% cut off anyhow.

Guide Please.
Thanks in Advance

Thank you sir! Hope we are submitting the scanned copy of our assignment this time. Should we also submit the hard copy?
Easy Life Hacks said…
@ MA Psy Student- Assignments are marked according as per the content & presentation. Exceeding word limit won't be an issue. IGNOU study material content is not required, you can write from other reference materials as well.

Due to COVID-19 crisis, this time the hand-written assignments are getting submitted in the soft copy in .pdf format. Respective Regional centres have provided email ID's for the same. Keep the hard copy safely and submit only if IGNOU give such instructions.

Easy Life Hacks said…
Hello Riya,
1- Last date of assignment for Jan, 2020 is currently 30.09.2020. This will most probably increase by atleast one month. Make the assignments and get it over with. You can do it. No marks are deducted.
2- For a PG diploma course, minimum time required to complete the course is 1 year and max time is 3 years. This means if due to certain reasons, one can't complete the course in 1 year, IGNOU gives flexibility to complete the same in a span of 3 years.

Hi, I am Sonika from Hyderabad and have registered for PGDESD programme in the month of December 2020 with the intention of starting my batch/studies from January 2021 where I thought 1 year for me would be from January 2021 to December 2021. Unfortunately due to COVID the admissions have been extended till January itseems for 2020 batch students. Hence IGNOU has taken that now I come under July 2020 batch as I paid fees on December 2020. But in that case I have lost 6 months of my course duration (July 2020 to December 2020) and without any notification that I come under 2020 batch and I have only 6 months now to complete the entire course if my goal is to earn gold medal. Can this be extended to December 2021 for people who have enrolled in December 2020

They might say, yes, you can extend because the maximum time to complete the diploma course is 3 years. But here in our case (for people who have enrolled in Dec 2020 for 2021 batch) the disadvantage is in the records it might come that we couldn't complete in 1 year and HENCE the student is not eligible for GOLD medal. Please assist me on how to resolve this.

Also the PGDESD course has 32 credits and out of that audio and video programmes are considered too to earn credits. But audio and video programmes are not available yet for PGDESD. Does credits related to audio and video programmes are considered for eligibility of Gold medal ??

Plz tell me. 2nd doubt i have is through words of mouth i got to know that i will have to make assignment which is released for jan 2021 session. Mtlb hmko apna session ka Chor k dusre next session ka assignment bnana hoga. Bohot confusion horha hai sir. Bnaya hua assignment ab submit nahi krrhe rejection k dar se.
Plz help me sir.
Easy Life Hacks said…
Dear Sonika,

Once you have taken admission in a particular session, that session can't be changed. Please check the session in which you have taken the admission (and not the month in which you paid the fees, as the deadlines to take admission were extended).

Dear Shivam,

As the Dec, 2020 TEE has already started, I don't think you will be allowed to submit the assignments now. You can try & request your study centre officials.

Also, let me clarify that if you have not submitted the assignment of previous session (Jan-2020) and if the new assignments are uploaded on IGNOU website, you have to submit the new assignment & the old assignments will not be valid.

What are the chances of assignment submission date be re-extended beyond 30 Apr 2021? Joined a job recently, and not getting time to write assignmnents. I try to study the material once in a while, bu only have gone through few pages of two subjects. There are 7 subjects. MA philosophy. Is it doable by Apr 30? I would want to target gold medal.

Dear NH95,
The last date for submission of assignments for June, 2021 TEE has been extended upto 31.05.2021.

How to Calculate Final marks in IGNOU

Calculate Final marks, Division and Grades in IGNOU For calculation of final marks in a course, assignment carry 30% weightage while 70% weightage is given to the marks obtained in the Term End Examination (TEE). 1- For courses in which maximum marks in Term End Examination (TEE) and assignments = 100, you can use the following method. However, it should be used only when marks indicated in the IGNOU grade card are out of 100.       Let us take different examples to understand the exact procedure:- When Maximum Marks = 100 Calculation of Assignment Marks Calculation of TEE Marks Final marks in the course out of 100 Marks obtained in Assignment out of 100 Assignment Marks according to 30% weightage i.e.  (Column-a) * 0.3 Marks obtained in TEE out of 100 TEE Marks according to 70% weightage i.e.  (Column-c) * 0.7 Final marks = (Assignment Marks in Column-b + TEE Marks in Column-d)
